Happy Birthday Little Siter...22 huh?
Okay - I spelled SISTER wrong, my bad.
I thought I'd share what it's like to be 22 and...well: me. I have come to think of being finished with work by 6pm as a day off. Funny huh? I love working down at the tavern where everyone is friendly and I learn more every day. Being a waitress however has its draw backs:
-if the kitchen messes up, your tip goes down cuz well you can't tell a customer that it was the kitchen's fault
-you've been serving people since 11am, it's now 12:30 at night and your lunch that you ordered around 3pm was either eaten by other waiters as you rushed to refill someone's coke, or is still sitting in the kitchen, minus the few fries you snagged while refilling the coke
-When you say you're ready to order, be ready to order because the table next to you is marking the tip down as the waitress stands their smiling patiently and waiting anxiously for you to decide what it was you originally wanted when you said you were ready to order
-your tip goes down because when someone asks you what beers you have on tap and you say over a hundred, and then they pick the one beer that you ran out of 5 minutes ago and that person argues with you on how could you possibly be out of Miller Lite
-Miller Lite is amazingly enough the number one selling beer, it doesn't matter that Coors light is on special for 1 dollar cheaper
-You find yourself wearing a UGA hat, even though you know nothing about footbal, just to get that extra 3 percent tip
-You desperately want to let all your tables know that you are only making 2.13/hr so their tip may or may not allow you to get new brakes on your car, or, may or may not help to pay back school loans (we're not all lazy people without an education)
-And through it all you love getting a chance to get to know your table and enjoy seeing them come back week after week--even if their kid did turn the booth into a disaster area that took one manager, one hostess, and two servers to clean up, cuz gosh darnit the little devil is cute.
Just a little reminder for the next time you're trying to figure out percentages on tips for your server, trust me we don't mind over 20% in fact you make our day when you tip closer to 30. And if you wonder where you server is, look around the restaurant she's either running around like a chicken without a head, or she's fending off fellow servers intent on eating her fries.
This is what it is like to be a 22yr old waitress/actress. One job feeds the mouth the other feeds the soul.
Ah, the bittersweet taste of the "real world."
As long as you continue to use your senses, you'll be successful!!!
Love,
Erin
Or you can be like me: Postpone the real world for as long as possible. Keep going to school. That way you can delay the whole loan repayment thing...haha. Love ya JoBo.
You can't imagine how often I brag of our ganddaughter who wanted a job where she could "pretend the rest of her life." And who has done what needs to be done to make that happen.
Be ye reminded that "Some innocents 'scape not the thunderbolt"
Ant & Cleo, Act ii, Sc.5 Your "Tale of $2.13 Shitties" is more proof of your resolve!
Chin up, smile forward, and eyes on the goal! You go, girl!
Love...

Well, my first professional show starts this coming Wednesday. I will be playing the part of Hecate for the October run of Macbeth. Then in November I switch to a currently unnamed role in Winter's Tale. Life is moving and I thought I'd just keep everyone updated :)
Tracy Jo,
I just wanted to let you know that you are missed so very much here at Hanover. We were looking at pictures from the years past and saw a few of you in them. Jenny "your little" and I said that we MISSED you! This is just a big "HELLO" from your sisters.
LL,
Stephanie
What does it really mean to be an actress? Well it's all about acting and covering your butt! During last night's performance, I would have to say I did a wonderful job: You, see I do a very fun dance, unfortunately right before the dance, I felt all three of the safety pins holding my petticoat up go "pop, pop, pop". Needless to say, I had no choice but to keep going. Well, halfway through the rousing shepherdess dance my petticoat fell to my ankles, how to respond: simply stay with the beat as you step out of the petticoat and then kick it across the stage so that it is in noone elses way, continue dancing, then run off stage and laugh hysterically with the rest of the cast for an hour or so. Thought you all might enjoy this little tid bit :)
